Day 2: Hay to Wentworth

This morning we realised how many essentials were buried deep in the trailer, including coffee and most breakfast supplies! Richie spent an hour digging items out and redistributing things before we could settle down for breakfast. We followed this with a trip to the Hay playground (where we realised this is probably going to be a 10 week tour of playgrounds of Australia), and a walk on the Murrumbidgee river.

The drive through the Hay Plains continued, this time in daylight. Cotton harvest is underway so lots of fluff on the roadsides, and big cotton trucks shedding their loads as they go. Bonnie counted emus and spotted birds of prey as we drove. We stopped for a rest at Malleefowl rest area, which looked a nice place to camp….another time! Lots of mandarins to buy going into Sunraysia region. Unfortunately we can’t stock up due to fruit fly control in SA. We will have to binge eat mandarins for the next day!

Our stop for the night is Wentworth, where the Darling meets the Murray. This time in a motel – thanks NSW govt for 2 nights accommodation!

There’s time for a walk along the Darling River, another excellent playground, and wine and snacks by the river. The motel has a games room, so lots of table tennis fun, and a cute Nepalese restaurant, so the kids got dumplings for dinner.
