Awoke to a very cold morning, thankful that Jodes had organised a late check-out! The caravan park at Melrose was a lovely spot, they have an informal bush camping area away from the main park, so you don’t feel like you are in a caravan park but still have toilets and hot showers. Spent the whole morning packing, hoping we will become a little more efficient at that! Said our goodbyes at 1pm then hit the road. Stopped for fuel and a couple of supplies in Port Augusta – thankfully mum and dad had stocked us up with fruit, veg, meat and bread from Adelaide so we were mostly set!
We headed up the Stuart Hwy to Lake Hart. The lakes all have a lot of water in them, looking like inland seas! We were a little surprised to see how busy Lake Hart was – around 25-30 vans filled the car park! Thankfully we found a space for our car, and a nice flat area for our tent a little towards the lake. It turned out to be the ideal spot, away from all the caravans and with an amazing view of Lake Hart.
The lake was a completely different scene compared to last time we stopped in in 2014! Back then we walked out onto the salt crust, which looked like a snow scene! We collected a couple of jars of salt (which we only used up last year!). This time it was like a beach – amazing!
We watched a stunning sunset over the lake, had soup for dinner (thanks Ant and Jodes for the leftovers! Kids declared it the best dinner ever!), Then hit the tent, feeling a bit worse for wear with colds. We were lulled to sleep with the sound of passing trains, surprisingly relaxing!
