Day 61: Perth

Saturday 3rd September 2022

Woke to rain, happy to be in a house! We had a very lazy morning, reading books to the kids, sitting around. The kids started to run riot in the house, and we decided it was time to get some outside play. We ventured to a nearby school and played in the playground, in gusty winds and rain.

Richie, Otis and I went to the Freemantle markets, which were great. The usual markety knick-knacks to look at, none of which we could buy, with no spare space in the car! We bought gluten free doughnuts (which is how I convinced Richie to go in the first place!). I had a great Bahn mi for lunch, and Otis devoured a plate of Nepalese dumplings. We watched a street performer for a while, picked up a bit of fresh food and headed back.

The kids continued to display boundless energy so everyone went outside to play soccer and I snuck off for a walk to the river! The wind was relentless at the waters edge, but it was protected through the streets so I admired the local architecture instead!

By the time I got back, Tim, Stafford and Claire had arrived for dinner, so it was straight back into cheese and sparkling. We had burgers from a local place for dinner, then all moved upstairs to sit by the fire and watch the last quarter of the Freemantle vs Bulldogs AFL game – I think the most AFL I have ever watched in my life! Stafford put on a beautiful piano performance just as I took the kids to bed – such a treat for the kids to fall asleep to the piano! Richie and Tim then played billiards into the night, and I read up on a bit of Russian history – the charm of a coffee table next to the fire piled with books!
