Our time in Adelaide we took very easy, and didn’t do much at all, so I am covering it in one post. โบ๏ธ And I needed a break from late night blog writing, which I pretty much replaced directly with late night wine drinking! ๐
Adelaide was very unlike Adelaide, in that it was cold, wet and windy for almost the entire time there. Our usual experience of Adelaide- admittedly most often at Christmas but occasionally August – is very hot and dry! Definitely not days of rain! This made us feel pretty lethargic about doing much at all, except for trying to squeeze in walks along the river between showers, which were mostly poorly timed! ๐
We went to Adelaide Central Markets – I just love it there, so much fun and amazing food, we try and come every time we visit. We had lunch in the Asian food hall, bought up on beautiful fresh fruit, veg, cheese and Haigs chocolate and Richie got another taste of gluten free doughnuts!
Bonnie got some good crafting sessions in with Omite – she is well aware that Walkerville has an infinite treasure trove of crafting potential! Mum had her making collage placemats for us all, and they had an origami session. Bonnie and I also went with mum to her church for a kids craft and story session – Bonnie was in her element trying out all the different craft activities, and had a ball with some of the other kids there.
We went to Hahndorf on Monday – the only sunny, clear day we got. We’ve been hanging out for a pub meal and thought we would save it up for the Hahndorf Inn, where we shared an enormous German meat platter with mum and dad! Another activity we like to try and fit in when we go to Adelaide! ๐ After overeating on pork hock, sausages, schnitzel and sauerkraut we went for a walk along the street. Amongst other shops we checked out a store that sells cuckoo clocks. The clocks are all set a few minutes off each other, meaning we got caught in a black hole of time, just waiting three or so minutes for the next clock to go off! We also visited a fairy shop – I promised Bon we could go after lunch but it had closed by then. Bonnie was so devastated the woman heard her and reopened the shop so Bonnie could buy a fairy! ๐
After feeling like we’d walked a sufficient amount we stopped for coffee and some really great ice cream made with lots of fresh fruit. This was late enough in the day for everyone to suddenly decide it was too cold to be outside eating ice creams, so we all piled back into dad’s van to go back!
The kids watched a few movies throughout our stay, including the first Harry Potter movie, since we finished the book on our arrival into Adelaide. Otis was terrified in parts and made himself a safe space under a desk, in a box, that he could retreat into during the scary parts!
We had dinner with Antony and Jodes twice, and had a great catch up with the goings on – covid recovery, new job, house building plans, constant house and garden changes – lots happening! Jodes had just finished bottling her first ever batch of wine – super exciting! The wine came off the bottling line on Saturday and we were having an early try on Sunday night! It’s an absolutely beautiful rose. She swears never again but we’re all hoping she’ll go on to attempt others. โบ๏ธ
Other than this there were playground visits, Lego building, cooking, basketball at the courts and river walks. Richie ‘de-wilded’ himself with a shave and a haircut, immediately looking 20 years younger! ๐๐ We did no socialising outside of immediate family – which I feel guilty about, and should try and rectify at Christmas! It was nice to relax though!
