We got up reasonably early to pack ready to go, then ended up lingering over breakfast and coffee (complete with chocolate biscuits, of course!). It was a beautiful sunny morning (finally!), and it would have been nice to enjoy the lovely spring day. We finally got going after 10, with a seven hour drive to Hay ahead of us!
The long drive and late start meant we did minimal stops on the way. We had a very short break in Underbool, and admired the Eremophila garden near the public toilets! We got fuel at Ouyen, where the attendant gave Otis and Bonnie a chocolate bar and lollypop each (moments after I had told them they weren’t going to get a treat)! We stopped again at Tooleybuc for a playground stop. This has been majorly revamped since we last drove this way – new facilities, picnic ground, playground area and a jetty/houseboat mooring structure. It’s always been a good stopover point for us driving to Adelaide, with a lovely riverside playground that helps get the kid’s energy out!
We finally pulled into Hay just after six, all feeling a bit cooped up from the drive. We had booked a cabin at the caravan park again – using our last NSW stay voucher! It’s definitely full circle now, our (almost) last night the same as our first! The kids even remembered which cabin we had the first time!
We made the most of the fading light to have a play in the playground, and a walk over the Murrumbidgee River. It’s looking very soggy here, lots of water around….a reminder of what we are probably going home to!
We got a bigger cabin this time, with two bunk beds! Perfect – no arguments over who sleeps in the top bunk…. except Otis is asleep with Richie in the big bed so I guess I get the bunk! 🤪
